My first day is completed. I can honestly say that was one of the hardest jump days of my life. Down at the pit, there were so many nerves. You could see it on everyone's face. There was very little talking, very little communication - - complete focus. It didn't really hit me until I walked onto the track the magnitude of what was about to take place. Although I had already seen previous days of competition, I still was not prepared for the feeling I would experience as my turn came. Yes, it was just the qualifying round, but it was tough. We all got through the day, some of us made it to the next round, some of us didn't. I did make it to the next round. My best jump of the day was 6.61m and I am the third qualifier. Yesterday was a test, I passed, but I can do so much better. I am more than anxious to get on the runway on Thursday and prove to myself and to the crowd that I do belong, and I certainly belong on the U.S Olympic team. It is amazing what nerves can do to a person. I was wound so tight even after the competition, ask my family, they'll tell you! But now the focus for the next few days is getting my mind situated for great jumps, taking care of my body, icing, massages, and complete focus on the task before me. I love this sport, and I have to remember, this is business, but this is also fun. Sometimes I can get so wound up, I forget that I love to fly! Well, I wont forget on Thursday, Houston, I'm bringing it home!!
See ya soon.... cheer for me. Think big numbers and positive thoughts! Funmi K. Jimoh

FUNMI!! I'm so proud of you and your first day results. I figured you'd be nervous but I definitely believed in you and your ability to get to the finals. I'll be thinking of you on Thursday... and yelling at the computer for faster updates. GOOD LUCK!! pb

Fly, Funmi, Fly!! Relax and soar high and far, swooping like an Owl to your goal at the far end of the pit.
Here's hoping you have some great jumps on Thursday.
