Hello Friends,
I am writing you now from Munich Airport. I am en route to my training base in Germany.
I won my meet in Reims, it wasn't too bad. I had a decent series and won with 6.73m of course as an athlete, and a serious competitor, I want to always do better. My goal at the present is to be able to jump 6.80's and 6.90's like its nothing. Once I can do that, then 7 meters becomes more and more possible. I'm getting there!
Anyhow, yesterday's competition was turbulent. After my meet in Reims, I ate and was packed by 1 a.m. And my bus to the airport was scheduled for 4 a.m. Needless to say sleep was lost to me. I got to Lucerne, switzerland where I was scheduled to compete that evening at 8:30. I quickly got in my bed by 10:30am. Try as I might, I had a fitful rest. There was construction going on right outside my hotel! It took a lot for me to wake myself up. The competition I will say was one of my poorest technically. I faltered in my run, body position, execution. Honestly it is a miracle I jumped 6.65 for my second place honors.
Coach told me to focus on my speed, I did that, and it saved me. My series was erratic. Where as there are so many things negative I could dwell on about yesterday, I certainly see a couple positives.
1st: I'm way stronger physically, mentally and emotionally than I previously thought. I know this because last year I would have crumbled at the thought of competing back to back with so little rest. I didn't crumble. I pat myself on the back.
2nd: I didn't count myself out. I rarely find my last jump is the one that is the best. Well lo and behold my last jump put me in first (before Hyleas' wonderful 6.89 passed me). I am proud of that. I did a little thing we like to call compete!
Well, at the end of the day I'm proud of myself even though I did not win a diamond... Boo.
Yes, first place gets a diamond! But I learned somethings about myself and that my friends... Is priceless.
Until next time
